Haiku Story

I wrote this story during the first year of Haiku Diem. It’s illustrated by Carridine Poran, an artist friend of mine who drew the pictures with his eyes closed. (When I asked him if he could do the artwork, he had me go through his portfolio and pick out a piece with a style I liked, and I happened to pick a drawing he’d done blind. So he went ahead and did the illustrations for this story that way, and I think they ended up working great.)

The story is copyrighted with a Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND license, which means you’re free to print it out and distribute it to anyone you like, as long as you credit me and Carridine, make no changes, and don’t charge for it or otherwise use it for commercial purposes.

We’ll even help you to do this. Here’s a PDF you can use to print it as a booklet that might be fun to give away to friends.

  1. Print the document in landscape mode, double-sided, on regular letter-sized paper.
  2. Folder the printed pages in half.
  3. Voila! You have a Haiku Story booklet.
  4. If you have one of those long arm staplers, you can staple it down the center as a final touch.
